National Logistics Plan put in place for 2017 natel
PNG Electoral Commission is currently putting in place a national logistics plan and procurement management process for the 2017 elections with the assistance of Australian DFAT and New Zealand DFAT. It is going to be the master plan for the procurement and distribution of election materials across the country during the elections.
Final printed rolls expected by end of March 2017
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato says he would like to expect the final Electoral Roll for the 2017 elections to be completed and printed by the end of March 2017. Mr. Gamato said he should expect all the 22 provinces to complete their field work in enrolling eligible voters by mid December or before Christmas Day 2016.
Gamato takes hardline position on conduct of 2017 polls
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato has issued a stern warning that he will take a hard-line position on the behavior all election officials in the conduct of the 2017 national election. He made this known at the third election managers and assistant election managers workshop in Mt. Hagen, Western Highlands Province, last week.
Nomination Fee increased, Campaign Period reduced
The nomination fee for candidates in the 2017 national election has been increased from the current K1,000 to K10,000 while the campaign period of eight weeks has been reduced by half to four weeks. These are among few legislative changes to election laws that were seriously deliberated on and approved by the National Executive Council (Cabinet).
Schools Voter Enrolment Program launched in NCD
The NCD Electoral Office officially launched its schools voter registration program today for all secondary schools and tertiary learning institutions in the nation's capital. Acting Deputy Commissioner Simon Sinai launced the enrollment program at the Gerehu Secondary School premises this morning inside the school hall packed with students, PNGEC staff, international partners, enrolment agents and media.
Gamato condems attack on PNGEC officers in Mendi
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato has condemned in the strongest possible terms the attack of senior Electoral Commission staff on their way to Mendi in Southern Highlands this morning to facilitate and witness the hand-over-take-over ceremony between former election manager David Wakias and the newly appointed election manager Jacob Kurap.
